Gosh, I'm having flashbacks seeing some of the old 'gang' here. So many names from the past - Troy, Marcia, Tom...
In my time, I've been a travel agent, a casino dealer/inspector, recruitment consultant in oil & gas, public relations exec, writer, quite a mishmash of jobs. I never really settled in any.
In 1999, I was a member of VirtualDr.com, trying to work out some of the more technical aspects of Win95, when I got an email from a fellow member asking if I was interested in working on his SubSeven trojan detection and elimination programs. I said yes and things just went from there. The programs were released in 2000 and I was in the malware-fighting business.
I continued doing this on a daily basis on various sites until I had a heart attack in July 2010; turns out heart trouble runs in the family as both of my grandfathers died in their 50s, and an uncle has had two stents put in. I didn't realise the seriousness of the heart problem until I got the bill from the hospital, showing I had had an "acute myocardial infarction". I had to look that up. But these days, having a stent put in is quick and painless. I have had much more unpleasant times at the dentist.
In 2011, I retired with my wife of 32 years to the tropical island of Koh Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand. We had bought a house here years ago with retirement in mind; the heart attack gave us the excuse to move here earlier than planned.
I've lost interest in the technical aspect of computers, so these days I potter around the garden, shop in the markets, cook, read and look after my investments. That's all I want from life these days...
